The founder of the original charity in 1979 was Howard Robson, an ex-Guide Dogs for the Blind Association Guide Dog Mobility Instructor. However, when it was relaunched in August 2001, Mrs Valerie kinder (now deceased) and Mrs Chris Parker were instrumental in relaunching it. Chris was also the founder of the new charity, No 1156790, a charitable incorporated organisation. It was decided to register a CIO because it gives trustees some limited liability. The old charity was an unincorporated association, so the trustees had no limited liability
Chris was a guide dog owner for 48 years, in which time she had five guide dogs. In 2013, she became a Seeing Dog (our term for guide dog) owner, when she trained with Roxy, a German shepherd bitch.
Roxy is unique in today’s guide dog world. She was bought from a pet shop and donated to Seeing Dogs by the mother of the girl for whom she was bought. Despite her poor beginnings, she has become a Seeing Dog.
Roxy is very attractive, as you Can see.
Here is a photograph of Roxy.
